Every year, the
Fisher
-
Price
Collector's Club gets together for our
annual convention in East Aurora, NY - the home of Fisher-Price Toys!.
The convention is almost always in late August, most likely the
weekend before Labor Day. The convention usually consists of
a sit-down dinner, plus an antique toy show and sale.
Some years we have other events, like a swap meet, or
a get-together at the ToyTown Museum (if it's open).
So East Aurora is the
place to be - below is some
information on where to stay, how to get here, and some
maps so you don't get totally lost!

*** Hotels and Lodging ***
|
There are many hotels
to pick from in the Buffalo area, but only one is located
directly in East Aurora (the Hampton Inn). Quite a few of the area hotels
are located near
Buffalo Airport, which is about 20 miles north of East Aurora.
Most club members stay in East Aurora itself, though
some are known to stay closer to Buffalo and more proximity to
Niagara Falls.
Sadly it seems that hotels don't seem to run very cheap during
the summer in the area!
There are some smaller bed and breakfast type places closer to
East Aurora, too (but I never stayed there and don't know about
them personally).
So listed here are
some hotel suggestions
for a nice stay in the area!

Most members of the Fisher Price Collector's Club stay here.
It is right in East Aurora and close to all the activities!
We all heard stories of some members who stay here and end up gabbing and chatting
in each other's rooms,
often lasting well into the wee hours of night!

The Buffalo Marriott Niagara
|

For those wanting a full-service hotel, this is it!
It has an heated indoor pool that connects to an outdoor pool;
a restaurant; and room service, too! About a 35 minute drive to Niagara Falls.
The hotel was renovated in 2008.
It is located about 20 miles north of East Aurora.

Comfort Suites, Buffalo Airport

This hotel is very close to the Buffalo Airport. Many club members
used to stay here before the East Aurora Hampton Inn opened.
Most rooms at this hotel are actually one room (not a seperate bedroom),
but still the rooms are
bigger than average. Beware of king bed suites - some have bathrooms
with a big open window that looks into the room!

Homewood Suites, Buffalo Airport

This hotel caters to the larger family who need one bedroom suites.
(I am not sure if this hotel has two bedroom suites).
Very close to the Comfort Suites listed above, and
quite close to the Buffalo airport.

*** Map - 2010 Toy Sale and Dinner Info ***

Below is a map of East Aurora. This map was written for the
July 24, 2010 Toy Sale and Dinner. It shows the
locations of Toy Sale at the Immanuel Lutheran Church (43 Pine Street),
the Hampton Inn (in case anyone is staying there)
and the Village Kitchen Cafe (Riley Street).
Also included is the Fisher-Price Factory campus, where
the Toytown Museum used to be located (it's gone forever now).
I think there is still a Fisher-Price retail store onsite (only
new stuff, not the good old toys).

The Village Kitchen Restaurant
is located one block off
of Main Street, at 40 Riley Street. This is the restaurant where
the Fisher Price Collector's Club held the dinner in 2007, 2008, 2009,
and now 2010.
It is right off of Riley Street, and shares a parking lot
with a store. Good food for everyone! For 2010, we are
eating around 6:30 on Saturday July 24.

The Toytown Museum used to be located right on
Girard Avenue, on the campus of the Fisher
Price factory (museum has since closed in May 2009).
There is also a Fisher Price
retail store here. The museum was located
upstairs above the store. If the website is functional,

*** Transportation (Getting There!) ***
|
|
|
|
|
Most club members
drive to East Aurora, NY. East Aurora is about 20 miles
from the New York Thruway and the city of Buffalo. Many drive also because
they fill up their cars with all their Fisher Price toys to sell!
For those living
further way, members can fly
into Buffalo-Niagara Airport, which is about 20 miles north of
East Aurora. So if you fly, drive, take the train, ride a motorcycle,
find any way you can to come to East Aurora for the Fisher Price
Collector's Club annual convention!
