During the summer of 2011, the
Fisher - Price
Collectors Club
once again held our annual convention in East Aurora, NY. This year, we held a social hour
on Friday July 29th; then had our annual sale and dinner on Saturday July 30th.
As with every year, we had a great time! We saw many familiar faces, plus many new members
who joined us this year. We even met our youngest club member ever - at only six years old!
Yes, we shared stories about our toys and recent rummage finds; talked about our collections;
updated everyone about our families and what they are up to; and just chatted the time away!

The 2011 Convention - What Went On!
|
|
Friday July 29th: The club held a social hour at the Immanuel Lutheran Church on Pine
Street. To our happiness, we had more people show up than we expected, which was great!
Fortunately Jacquie and crew had enough refreshments for everyone, and then some! I think
it was mentioned that we had around 30 people stop by. We even had some club members drop in
that we haven't seen in years. Afterwards, we all agreed that the social hour was a great idea
and we got to do them more often at our conventions!

|
Saturday July 30th: We held our Antique and Collectible Toy Show and Sale and we were
very pleased with the turnout. We had 7 vendors selling (some had stuff covering multiple tables) so
there was plenty of toys to see! We got some good foot traffic from people attending the Street and Sidewalk sale
going on outside across the parking lot; plus quite a few FP fans who came out just to find
the Fisher-Price parts and pieces they always been looking for. As always, the club members and sellers passed
the time chatting and gabbing all about their favorite toys and collections!
In the evening, we held our annual dinner with about 30 people in attendance. The catered food was served
buffet style; dessert included. We held our fundraiser raffle; gave out the Caring and Sharing Award and
Service Award; and gave positive thoughts and best wishes to some club members who couldn't attend due to
illness or loss in the family. As in a couple of prior years, Ted F. was our speaker, telling us all
about a very particular Fisher-Price toy that combined the Little People with wind-ups -
the #991 Music Box Lacing Shoe. Of course, he had one mint-in-the-box (awesome!). So we gabbed away
the evening, enjoying our food and listening to our speaker. The evening wound down a little before 9:00,
said our bye's for now, and hope to see everyone again next year!

|
| I still need to upload some photos from the convention. Many of mine
didn't come out well, so I looking for some more from other club members to post here. Check back again
later as I finish - still working on this ....! |
